NATURE & ADVENTURE

Oman is the land of adventures, starting from exploring the Hoota Cave, going through the experience of zip-lining in Musandam Governorate, as well as hiking on mountain trails in the Riam Walkway or through metal wires in Wadi Bani Auf. Also, diving into the depths of the ocean to enjoy seeing colorful coral reefs and rare fish in the Daymaniyat Islands, sailing in kayaks, sailboats, and jet skis, to camping under the star-studded sky in the sands of the East. All of this confirms a truly memorable visit, encompassing adventure in every sense of the word.

The diverse landscapes of the country and the varied tourism patterns it offers contribute to making your visit to Oman truly meaningful and unique. Witnessing the towering rocky mountains with green terraced fields built by early Omanis, attending camel races on the fringes of the desert, or riding camels, observing sea turtles as they lay their eggs and head towards the sea and even swimming in the clear waters of flowing wadis (valleys) are experiences that make your journey an endless delight.

DHOFAR REGION

Dhofar Governorate is located in the south of the Sultanate of Oma. It includes 10 wilayats: Salalah, Thumrait, Taqah, Mirbat, Sadah, Rakhyut, Dhalkoot, Maqshin, Al Mazyona, Shaleem, and Al Hallaniyat Islands. The geographical terrain in the Governorate of Shofar varies in perfect harmony between the mountain, the plain, the deser, and the sea, and you can enjoy these environments on an enjoyable journey of a few hours that takes you in a world of beauty and uniqueness. The exceptional season, which is known locally (Al Khareef), begins June to September because the governorate is exposed to monsoons, where cold winds blow accompanies by light drizzle. The mountains and plains are covered in green, and white fog surrounds its hills with the flow of water, waterfalls and water springs, making the governorate a green paradise that attracts visitors from various destinations.

A COASTAL EXPERIENCE

Shinas, one of the ports for Oman's high-speed ferry, is set on the sweeping north Batinah coast. South of the port is one of Oman’s largest Mangrove forests which spreads along the coast for almost two kilometres. The trees and the surrounding mud flats are an excellent location for birdwatching. Sightings should include Lesser Crested Tern, Great Stone Plover and if you are very fortunate a White Collared Kingfisher.

One of the Al Batinah’s northern towns Saham enjoys an enviable location on a great spread of sandy beach. The beach extends for over 10 kilometres either side of the town’s modern fishing harbour. It’s along these beaches that one of the world’s most ancient fishing craft are still found, the Shasha. Made from the carefully prepared leaf stalks of that most useful of trees, the Date Palm, the boats are ideal for inshore fishing.
